Micellar Carriers of Active Substances Based on Amphiphilic PEG/PDMS Heterograft Copolymers: Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Safe Use on Skin

Amphiphilic copolymers containing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyethylene glycol methyl ether (MPEG) were obtained via an azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction between alkyne-functionalized copolymer of MPEG methacrylate azide-functionalized PDMS. “Click” reactions carried out with efficiency 33–47% increasing grafting degrees. The grafted able to carry the micellization encapsulation active substances, such as vitamin C (VitC), ferulic acid (FA) arginine (ARG) drug loading content (DLC) in range 2–68% 51–89% (FA or ARG). In vitro release studies (phosphate buffer saline, PBS; pH = 7.4 5.5) demonstrated that maximum substances was mainly after 1–2 h. permeability released through membrane mimicking skin evaluated by transdermal tests Franz diffusion cells indicated slight into solution (2–16%) their remaining membrane. Studies on selected carrier FA showed no negative effect cell viability, proliferation capacity senescence, well apoptosis/necrosis differences cycle interruption comparison control cells. These results presented micellar systems are good candidates for carriers cosmetic according physicochemical characterization biological studies.
